Our goal is to make dentistry a more personal experience by putting relationships and our patients’ satisfaction ahead of everything else.

Our Dentists

Dr. William H. Butterfield

General Dentist

Dr. Butterfield graduated from McGill University with a BSc in Microbiology in 1990 and he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1995. Dr. Butterfield has practiced dentistry at the Smyth Dental Center for over 20 years, and his practice is a general family dental practice that focuses primarily on restorative and implant dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics, periodontal and oral surgery. While Dr. Butterfield enjoys all aspects of general family dentistry, he has a keen interest in the treatment and management of temperomandibular disorders, utilizing appliance therapy and Botox injections.

In addition to Dr. Butterfield’s general family practice, he is hired frequently by several Canadian Insurance Companies, to comment on suspected claimant’s Temperomandibular Disorders, that are the results of motor vehicle accidents. Dr. Butterfield is married and has two children.
Dr. Michel Jean

General Dentist

Dr Michel Jean earned his degree in 2000 from Laval University in Quebec City. He joined the Smyth Dental Centre in 2003 after starting his career in his hometown of Kapuskasing, Ontario, becoming a partner in 2005. He practices interceptive orthodontics with children and offers orthodontic services to his adult clients. He is also a member of the International Association of Orthodontics, Ontario Dental Association, Canadian Dental Association, and Ottawa Dental Society.

He is fluently bilingual and enjoys all aspects of dentistry, especially gaining the trust of nervous patients and helping to convert them into patients who no longer fear coming in for dental appointments. He has dedicated many years of continuing education in orthodontics to help patients obtain beautiful smiles using either braces or clear aligners such as Spark Clear Aligners.

An avid outdoorsman and woodworker you may find him enjoying mountain biking, sailing and skiing with his family.
Dr. Matthew Arthur Andrew Mailloux

General Dentist

Dr. Matthew Arthur Andre Mailloux was born in Midland, Michigan to Montrealer parents and spent his formative years in Massachusetts. He went to McGill University and received his BSc in Honours Anatomy and Cell Biology in 2000 and his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2004 with numerous clinical awards. Dr. Mailloux has practiced dentistry in northern Ontario and Nunavut for First Nations and Inuit communities and since 2010 in Ottawa after his wife accepted a job in the public service.

Dr. Mailloux and his wife have three young daughters and two big dogs. He enjoys spending time with his family, motorcycling and canoe camping.

At work, Dr. Mailloux focuses on providing conservative excellence for his patients, and enjoys making all of his patients as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Dr. Mailloux volunteers regularly at The Ottawa Mission and is a member of the Ottawa Dental Society, The Ontario Dental Associate, and the Canadian Dental Association.
Dr. Alexandra Craciun

General Dentist

Dr. Alexandra Craciun received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Montreal. During dental school, she completed an internship in Brussels, Belgium, and was awarded the Canadian Dental Association Student Leadership Award as well as the American Academy of Implant Dentistry Certificate of Recognition. Following dental school, Dr. Craciun pursued advanced training by completing a General Practice Residency at McGill University, where she refined her skills across various dental disciplines.

Her areas of interest include oral surgery, endodontics, and prosthodontics. She takes pride in delivering personalized care tailored to each patient’s needs and strives to make every dental visit a comfortable and positive experience.

Fluently bilingual, Dr. Craciun creates a welcoming environment for all patients. Outside of dentistry, she enjoys staying active through alpine skiing and running, and nurturing her creativity through painting.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Dr. Craciun is excited to be serving the community in which she grew up and looks forward to helping her patients achieve and maintain healthy, confident smiles.
