Dental Technology
Technologies at Our Dental Clinic
At Smyth Dental Centre, technology helps us during appointments by giving our team detailed information about our patients' oral health. It plays a vital role in treatment planning and helping to keep dental appointments running smoothly.
Not only does technology help with efficiency during your appointment, but it also allows for easier communication. Technology helps us visualize treatment planning and then easily share it with you. Because we can display digital X-rays and scans on the monitors in our treatment rooms, we can show you any issues in your mouth and walk you through your treatment plan.
Our Ottawa dentists and team believe that providing good communication regarding your oral health plays a key role in helping you maintain long-term good oral health. Technology helps us do that.
Digital X-Rays
Capable of capturing images in seconds, producing high-resolution imaging, and allowing for easier retrieval in the future, digital X-rays are popular among dental professionals. They produce highly detailed computer images of the teeth and gums, as well as other oral structures and conditions, allowing your dentist to examine parts of the mouth that are not visible to the naked eye.
Panoramic X-Rays
Panoramic X-rays allow your dentist to create a single image of your entire mouth. This is done using a series of images that have been combined into a singular one. This image is a flat representation of the teeth, upper and lower jaws, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), and the nasal and sinus structures. Panoramic X-rays are often used to help plan treatments for dentures, braces, extractions and implants.
Dental Lasers
At Smyth Dental Centre, we incorporate the Picasso Lite+ soft tissue laser into treatment plans whenever possible. With a precise, concentrated beam of light, soft oral tissues can be removed or treated to help improve a person’s oral health and overall aesthetics. These lasers help our dentists treat oral health issues with ease and accuracy.
Intraoral Scanners
Our intraoral scanners create digital dental impressions of your mouth. They offer a cleaner and less time-consuming alternative to traditional dental impressions. Within minutes, this camera-tipped, handheld scanner can capture accurate images to create a digital model of the hard and soft tissues of your mouth.
Digital Smile Design
It’s normal to be hesitant about committing to a cosmetic dental procedure when you’re not sure what the results will look like. You can't know if teeth whitening is the best choice for your smile until you see it and you won't know exactly what your teeth look like with veneers until they are placed. Luckily, modern technology lets us capture pictures of your teeth and digitally alter them to show you what you can expect your smile to look like at the end of the process. You and your dentist can choose the right option for you with the help of Digital Smile Design which allows you to see what your results may be.
