Preventive Dental Hygiene
Monitoring Your Oral Health
When your teeth aren't causing you pain or discomfort, you might think that there’s no need to see the dentist. However, tooth decay and gum disease often develop silently, without obvious symptoms, until they reach more advanced stages.
Even if you do a great job of brushing and flossing every day, you should still visit the dentist at least two times a year for checkups and cleanings. Regular dental checkups can lower the risk of small dental issues turning into larger ones.
During your exam, your dentist will take a close look at your teeth, gums, jaw and bite. Exams may also include dental X-rays and oral cancer screenings.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer can affect any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues. During your exam, your dentist will check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer which are difficult for you to detect on your own.
Keep Your Teeth Fresh & Clean Between Visits
To keep your teeth and gums healthy between dental appointments, be sure to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, and floss at least once a day.
Dental Hygiene Cleaning
During your exam, your dental hygienist will perform a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to prevent and treat disease.
To begin, your hygienist will use a scaler to remove any tartar and plaque build-up. Next, they will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover stains or plaque, followed by a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
Research has shown that frequent exposure to fluoride helps strengthen enamel, thus making teeth less prone to cavities. Our team may suggest a fluoride treatment as part of your next routine appointment.
This service is normally recommended for children, but there are many cases where adults can also benefit from it. The process is very simple and can be completed in a few minutes, making it an easy way to protect your teeth.
